Perhaps just a strikingly serendipitous moment in time . . . but our pastor just posted this on his blog. For those interested in my previous post, here is what our pastor has to say on the subject of alcohol.
I didn't get a chance to listen to the sermon you linked to, but I did read your pastor's blog post. As you know, I'm not Baptist and the issue of alcohol was never a big deal in my house or my church growing up, but I think it's always a good idea to check "the way you were raised" against what the Word says - thanks for the thoughts!
Technically the SBC does not have a stance on alcohol. Each SBC church is independant but most adhere to the Baptist Faith and Message. The Baptist Faith and Message does not address alcohol. At convention this year there was a proposed amendment to take a formal stance on alcohol however it was tabled.
That's good to know Amy. Thanks for the update. And let's hope they keep it tabled, since SBC claims to be Bible driven. I would hate for the agenda of some to creep into doctrine when the Bible doesn't outright forbid it.
